The Hen, The Fox and the Cave

Late one afternoon, a hen wandered at the edge of her farm. She spied a bush of berries and ventured into the forest to have a bit more to eat. A fox in the bushes spotted her and had no hesitation to begin the chase. The hen was quick and dove into a small cave in the rocks and the fox soon followed. He found it hard to squeeze into the cave but he slid himself in and the fight began. Whirling in circles inside the cave, both were fast and elusive, but the fox ate the hen in mere moments. The fox was so pleased with himself and his lunch that he laid back to rest and fell asleep.  He awoke when night had fallen and decided to begin another hunt and sat up to leave the little cave. When he pushed himself up to the entrance, he realized he was stuck. He wiggled and stretched, turned and twisted to no avail. He could not get out.  He stopped and looked at his huge belly. He had eaten so well, he was blessed with a fine meal that had also  increased his girth. He looked out the entrance of the cave and saw the wise old owl far above him in a tree who spoke, “You are guilty of gluttony. You were so hungry when you went in, you didn’t imagine how to get back out. You now must remain in the cave until you are as skinny and as hungry as you were before you went in.”

Moral of the story - Beware of the consequences of indulgence
